These are practising Catholic men folk who meet socially every month. The Catenian Association was formed in 1908 for Catholic business and professional men at the suggestion of the Bishop of Salford. In those days popular attitudes did not view Catholics kindly and the new Association gave Catholic business men mutual support and a forum in which to meet other like-minded Catholic laymen.

Now nearly 100 years later, they enjoy the support of the hierarchy and clergy and still meet socially but the membership is drawn from hundreds of different occupations. There are some 300 Catenian circles in the UK and others overseas.

The members meet monthly and their families meet socially.

The Catenian Association administers a Bursary Fund which makes grants to young Catholics to work in projects for the benefit of the community both in the UK and overseas.

Catenians may, and frequently do, visit the Meetings of other circles. There are ten Catenian Circles in south London. Members have lots of choice.

The Association is not a "secret society". Membership does not depend on wealth or occupation.

The Association is not a Catholic Action Group but members are involved in a variety of During the year we organise two evening Catholic activities
